How it Works

Choose a concert date

After joining our newsletter above, watch for an email with a Google Form to the current month's concert. Pick a date and time (or several) that work best for you!

Prepare 5-15 minutes of music

Feel free to play anything you want, from etudes to pop songs. We're flexible on the length, just pick something you enjoy playing! Before the concert, be sure to prepare a few talking points to share with the audience about you or the repertoire.

Show up, socialize, and perform!

Whether you're driving yourself or carpooling, aim to arrive about 15 minutes before the concert begins so you can get set up. All performers are strongly encouraged to stick around until the end to talk with the audience members - many students say this is their favorite part of these concerts!

How do I sign up to volunteer?

Our concerts will resume in Fall 2024. Join our email newsletter at the top of this page to be notified any time sign-ups are released!

Where are outreach concerts held?

Outreach concerts have historically been held at Capstone Village, a retirement community located on UA's campus (about 5 min from the music school). However, we are planning to expand to new locations in the near future, so watch for the location on the sign-up form!

What is the typical style and length of the pieces performed?

While many performers choose to play classical repertoire, there is no "typical" style or length for outreach concerts - we welcome anything and everything! Most of our student concerts do involve multiple performers on the program, so if you're interested in doing a solo concert, let us know here.

Can I get transportation to an outreach concert?

Yes! When you sign up for a concert, you can indicate whether you need transportation. We will pair you with a student who has a car and can safely get you to the concert venue.

Can I request an piano accompanist for my piece?

Yes! While we do not guarantee accompanists, there are a number of pianists involved with Concerts for Joy who likely can play for you at an outreach concert. Just let us know when you sign up!
